When designing a brochure it is important to bear in mind several aspects related not only to the content but also to the printing process involved in the creation of brochures. The graphic designer in charge of creating a brochure has to do extensive research in order to learn about potential clients and their preferences. That way he will be able to create a design that is effective and meets the objective sought. As we said before, it is paramount that the designer takes into consideration not only the content of a brochure but also the way it is presented to the public, that is to say the type of paper it is printed on.

Choosing the type of paper is one of the most important steps in the creation of a brochure. The texture, quality and colors of the paper used in the design are paramount in this type of design because they carry meaning and add to the message conveyed by the brochure. Regarding texture, brochures that are soft to the touch will have an effect different to those printed on rough materials. For instance, brochures printed on rough materials are usually associated to the countryside and nature, and may be used to promote some kind of ecological campaign. Depending on the material used, brochures will last longer or shorter. Strong materials will produce brochures that will not deteriorate easily with time, and therefore will be kept for longer. For instance, Bi-folds and Tri-folds are usually printed on stronger materials than Leaflets or Flyers.

The type of paper will depend on the type of brochure. Brochures that are folded two or three times will require the use of softer materials that can be folded easily. Note that the fact of being soft does not imply that they are of low quality, since it is possible to print high quality brochures that can be folded and unfolded easily. The colors and elements included in the design will vary depending on the type of paper, so it is important that when choosing the paper you bear in mind the elements that you plan to include.

When you decide on the type of brochure to print, you should consider many aspects. First, it is important that you define your objective and the way you want to meet it. Depending on the aim of the brochure, you may choose to get a Flyer, a Bi-Fold, a Catalogue or another type of Brochure design. Second, you have to analyze your audience and its preferences. Who is your audience? What age is it? Another key factor is your budget. Some types of brochure cost dear, while others are more affordable. Decide how much you are planning to spend on advertising. When making that decision, bear in mind that a good promotional campaign is paramount to the success of your company, so do not choose the cheapest types of brochures and materials just to cut costs.

After you have decided on the type of brochure, paper and size to print, you have to look for a printing house that prints the brochure you want to get. Conventional brochures are produced massively and you may not have difficulties in finding a printing house. If you want to get bigger sizes or special materials, however, you will have to find a printer that has the tools to produce the type of brochure you want.
